Scholarship Policy

As a trainer, I recognize that life circumstances sometimes create challenges for individuals while working toward their goals. When possible, I do what I can to work together to make the dream of doula training a reality. In the past, we have accomplished this through payment plans, scholarships, barter, and internships (doing work for BirthMark). These have proven very successful, and have helped to create mutually beneficial and rewarding experiences.

That said, economic times are a challenge for everyone these days, and as you would expect, many and even most persons interested in attending doula training are requesting scholarships. For obvious reasons, it is not possible to accomodate every request. I ask that before requesting modifications in payment, you take a moment to consider the following: Is the request a 'want' or a 'need'? Have you exhausted every source of revenue? Can you request contributions for a birthday or holiday gift? If you do receive a scholarship, how will you 'pay it forward'? In what ways will you be able to provide services for others who are also in need? In requesting a payment plan, please have one ready to propose. And in requesting in internship or barter, please consider what you have to offer and what your schedule can accomodate. In this way, the process can move more smoothly for all.
