Post Partum Support Group for Depression and Anxiety

The post partum support group for depression and anxiety is designed to meet the needs of women who are finding the transition to parenthood difficult. Many women feel exhausted and overwhelmed with trying to care for an infant. Depression and anxiety are not uncommon during this period of time, but many people feel that they are alone in their reactions. There is an assumption that motherhood is “supposed” to be a glorious experience, and women often feel that they have somehow failed as mothers if they are not overjoyed with their new role. Women in the group have an opportunity to meet others who are also struggling and share their experiences with one another in a warm and supportive environment. Coping strategies and ways to care for oneself are discussed at every meeting.

The support group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:30am-12:00pm. The cost for the group is $25 per meeting. Receipts are available to submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement, as most insurance companies have some coverage for group therapy.

The group is led by Susan Maroto, LCSW (www.therapywithsusan.com). Susan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has experience with post partum issues.
