Sleep Lecture Series: Healthy Sleep for Families
A 5-week workshop that brings the science of sleep
to parents of infants and toddlers (or one on the way), to help them
understand how and why sleep is important for health, how get the best
sleep for themselves, and how to make their child's sleep as healthy
as it can be.
About the Presenter: Dr. Grandner has a PhD in Clinical Psychology
with a specialization in Behavioral Medicine. He has over 10 years of
experience in the sleep field. He is the author of several scientific
publications, presented research findings at a number of national and
international scientific meetings, has delivered many lectures on
sleep, health and longevity, and is a member of the Board of Directors
of the Pennsylvania Sleep Society and a member of the American Academy
of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research Society, among a number of
professional organizations. His research on sleep and health has been
profiled in hundreds of national and international news outlets. He
currently treats patients at the Sleep Center at the Philadelphia VA
hospital.
The workshop will address a number of aspects of sleep and
how it is related to health in adults and children, with discussions
about how to make the most of your and your child's sleep. While there
are many books and online resources available, this workshop aims to
provide a unique and helpful perspective. Controversial topics, such
as co-sleeping and 'crying-it-out' will be addressed, with information based on
scientific data, not headlines or ideology.
Also, since the sleep of parents is just as important as the sleep in their children,
we will spend some time talking about ways that new parents can get
the best sleep possible, given the realistic circumstances. This
workshop is not a sales pitch and offers no miracle cures or simple
solutions. It simply presents the knowledge that is out there in a way
that is accessible. After all, that is why the sleep research field
exists: to make the lives of people better. This workshop takes those
findings out of the laboratory and helps you make the most of them in
your everyday lives.
